Wellington reports the death of Mr. R. L- Mestayer, civil engineer, aged 78. Captain W. Waller, harbormaster ab New Plymouth, is visiting Auckland for a few days. Mr. G. T. Murray, who was formerly Public Works engineer for the Taranaki district, is at present on a visit to New Plymouth.

Mr. Frank M. Whyte has been appointed a local Deputy Public Trusted at New Plymouth. Canon Haselden has been appointed vicar of St. Luke’s Church, Mount Albert, till December 31, 1922. The appointment was made by the Anglican Bishop of Auckland, Dr. A. W. Averill, at the request of the vestry of St* Luke’s. Another charge was offered to Canon Haselden, but he decided to remain at St. Luke’s. Miss Muriel Madeline Turner, daughter of Mr S. Turner, the well-known butter buyer, who gained her L.A-B. degree about six months ago while at lona College, Havelock North, has just been awarded the exhibition given by the Royal Academy of Music, l/ondon, for the most promising New Zealand.
