Wellington reports the death of Mr. R. L- Mestayer, civil engineer, aged 78. Captain W. Waller, harbormaster ab New Plymouth, is visiting Auckland for a few days. Mr. G. T. Murray, who was formerly Public Works engineer for the Taranaki district, is at present on a visit to New Plymouth.
Mr. Frank M. Whyte has been appointed a local Deputy Public Trusted at New Plymouth. At the seventh annual conference of the Dominion Estate Agents and Lancf Auctioneers’ Association, opened at Wellington on Thursday, a sincere votq of condolence with the family of late Mr, Clarke, Mayor of New Ply* mouth, and a vice-president of the asso/ eiation, who was killed in the aeroplan? accident at New Plymouth soms months ago, was passed. A cable from London says the Dominion Premiers, the High Commissioners, the Agents-General and their womenfolk attended a garden party given by the King and Queen at Buckingham Palace. New Zealanders present be? sides the official party included Sir John Findlay, Dean Carrington, Sir Roberts and Lady Stout, the Bishop of Dunedin, Sir Thomas Mackenzie, and Mesdamet Arthur Myers and Izard.
Canon Haselden has been appointed vicar of St. Luke’s Church, Mount Albert, till December 31, 1922. The appointment was made by the Anglican Bishop of Auckland, Dr. A. W. Averill, at the request of the vestry of St* Luke’s. Another charge was offered to Canon Haselden, but he decided to remain at St. Luke’s. Miss Muriel Madeline Turner, daughter of Mr S. Turner, the well-known butter buyer, who gained her L.A-B. degree about six months ago while at lona College, Havelock North, has just been awarded the exhibition given by the Royal Academy of Music, l/ondon, for the most promising New Zealand.
