BOWLING.
NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. BUILDING A PAVILION. / The matter of erecting a pavilion at the New Plymouth Bowling Club's new green in Courtenay Street was discussed at a meeting of members held last night. There was a moderate attendance, and tho president (Mr. C. H. Burgess), in commencing proceedings, cald he would have liked to have seen a larger number present considering there was a fair amount of expenditure involved in the question. The president explained that at the annual meeting tho committee had been delegated to report on tho question of a pavilion, and they now recommended the adoption of a modified plan for the building. It would be designed to provide for a membership of practically 180. Mr. Burgess then went into details concerning the financing of the building operations. $ Mr. J?. Jackson said the committee should be congratulated on the report, and tho manner in which the question had been presen*ed. He thought it would be in the Intercs s of the club to go on with the pavilion, and fie moved that the modified plan be adopted. The motion was seconded by Mr, H. Dempsey. 1 Mr. A. K. Smart said ho thought the time was opportune to go on with the building. Materials were down In price ns much ns they were likely to be for the next twelve months, and he was also of opinion that they would be able to get a firm quote from contractors just now. The building could be completed by Christmas. A number of members spoke in support of the scheme as set out by the president. Mr. H. Thomson suggested that a social chib should bo inaugurated to bring mambejs together during tho winter. He said it was a common practice in the South Island, and many clubs had a social branch. They generally provided a billiard table, which whs a source of much revenue during the winter.
The resolution was carried after a little further discussion, and it was also decided to carry out certain improvements to the tea-rooms, providing the committee could see their way to finance the work.
On the motion of Messrs. W. Ewing aufi F. Hooker tie meeting carried a resolution of appreciation of the work of the president, and the secretary (Mr. C. Carter) tn connection with tho pavilion scheme.
