THE FUTURE OF GAS? This question was referred to in a recent address by the Government’s Electrical ‘Expert. He states that with the coming of the national electrical scheme, gas-consump-tion would increase, together with, the making of coal by-products. j -World-yride experience proves that the ’development of electricity and rhe growth I of gas consumption go together. In Wellington, for instance, the consumption of gas has increased seven-fold since the introduction of electricity. The City of Toronto, Canada, is supplied by current from the hydro-electric installation at Niagara, and the Toronto Consumers’ Gas Company is therefore in competition with electricity from water power. Nevertheless the Gas Company has made progress by leaps and bounds, and 1 doubled its output between 1908 and 1914. The Wellington Gas Company has in its possession reports from Auckland (N.Z.) to Bergen (Sweden) which prove the same , tendency. . 1 The fact is, gas has so many unique 1 advantages that it cannot be economically replaced. I The demand of the public for coni venient light, heat and pow r is so great that it has never yet been completely satisfied. Even with a stationary population, as in Wellington, the future growth of the gas business is absolutely sure, j Some of the suburbs—such as Karori and Onslow—are not connected with the gas I [ supply, and therefore they provide an important field for expansion. Thfe is the reason for the Wellington Gas Company’s issue of 8 per cent. Mortgage Debentures, £250,000 of which are now offered for public subscription. This is ; a very fine investment, for the security consists of concrete assets valued at £550,000: The trustee of the Mortgage Debenture Trust Stock Deed is the Guardian Trust and Executors’ Company. .Those who wish to apply for Debentures should act promptly. Prospectus procurable from the Bank of New Zealand, members of Stock Exchange, or Wellington Gas Co.,Ltd., Wellington. The Debentures are in sums of £5O and multiples thereof. Currency: Tei years, Interest at 8 per cent, per annum will be payable half-yearly. Investigate to’4ay.
