In the Supreme Court Mr. Justice Adams made an order for the winding up of Mataia Limited, which is a company of two persons, both directors, viz. —Garrett P. Barry and David Robinson, the application being made by the former and opposed by the latter. The company had acquired land at Kaipara for £13,350, of which £11,125 remained on mortgage. The balancesheet showed that the company had lost £B2O in 11 months. PROMOTION OF TEACHERS. Wellington, July 21. A deputation of the School Committees’ Association asked the Minister of Education, Mr. C. J. Parr, to devise a change in the system of promotion of teachers, so as to avoid the necessity for constant changes, which disturbed the work of the school. The deputation suggested a greater range of salaries, so that teachers could be promoted without the necessity of transfers, or that the transfers bo only made at the end of a year.
The Minister said it was impossible to give effect to any system which meant an increase of expenditure on salaries, which now amounted to £155,000. He thought something might be done by fixing the period which the teacher must stay in a school before obtaining a transfer, as was already done in some districts. He would also give consideration to the proposal that transfers' should be made at the end of the year. Something might tfe don? by reducing the number of grades.
