CORRESPONDENCE.
HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER. To the Editor. Sir,—T note the remarks published of a discussion of the Borough Council meeting on Monday last re bringing tributary streams into the Waiwakaiho so as to insure an abundant water supply. The Hangatahua. or Stony river, is men* tioned. Now, those who know anything about the source of thit river would agree with me that it would coat a mint of money to bring water from it to assist the Waiwakaiho. The source of the Stony river is a large swamp on the northern side of the mountain, and the southern side of the PougeSl Ranges, which outlet is BalTs Falls, which • ns to the west. So the position is thL, that the whole range is a barrier against drawing on this lource. There are other streams on tne northern slopes of the Pouakais, name’ the Kiri, Henui, Mangorei and Mangamahoe. TheKiri (which is the main .branch of the Oakura) could be pipe! along the CarRoad to the Henui and thence to the Mangorei and Waiwakaiho. Some thirty years since the late Mr. A. G. Fookes forecasted the use of Bell’s Fall for electrifying New Plymouth. The above fall should be useful to the Okatq and Ware® districts.—l am, etc., W. B. DAVIES. ?Jew Plymouth, July 21, 1921.
