IRISH PEACE.
TROUBLE REPORTED. UNSATISFACTORY PROGRESS. HINT OF INTERRUPTION. ' By Telegraph,—Press Aasn.—Copyright. London, July 20. It is reported that the De Valera negotiations have broken down. They are certainly not progressing torily. Received July 21, 5.5 p.m. London, July 20. There are clear indications that the Irish peace negotiations with De Valera are not proceeding satisfactorily. The cheery demeanour of British Ministers has given place to obvious depression. It is unofficially stated that the visiting Prime Ministers have been invited to help to readjust the situation, only General Smuts agreeing. A well-inform-ed authority declares that when the life lines are being thrown out it may be taken as a sign that the ship is in danger. Following a protracted Cabinet meeting this evening, at which the terms to be submitted to De Valera to-morrow were drawn up, Mr. Lloyd George motored to Buckingham Palace to lay them before the King.—Aus.-N.Z.
