» THE FARR- CASE. By Telegraph.— -Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, July 20. A deputation, asked Mr. M‘Tiernan (Attorney-General) that the Government should recoup Dr. Thompson, who incurred an expenditure exceeding £7OO in his efforts to secure -the release of Mrs. Farr. The Minister replied that Mrs. Farr was a wealthy woman with an estate worth £13,000. Her obvious course was to reimburse Dr. Thompson for the costs incurred on her behalf. MOTHERS AND PICTURE SHOWS. * Melbourne, July 20. A meeting of the Mothers’ Union urged reforms respecting picture shows and requested legislation on the lines adopted in New' Zealand to check the details and methods of crime being shown on films. EMPLOYERS’ FEDERATION - CRITICISED. Sydney, July 20. After severely criticising the Employers’ Federation as an effete and incompetent body, the Master Builders’ Association withdrew its affiliation and also decided to secede from the Chamber of Commerce. BIG SETTLEMENT SCHEME. Sydney, July 20. Sir Joseph Carruthers outlined a scheme to be jointly managed by England and Australia with the object of settling a million men on a million farms. He urges the creation of a 30 million fund for the purpose. CLASS CONSCIOUSNESS. ' " Sydney, July 20. A mass meeting of unemployed engineers passed a resolution congratulating the Japanese workers on their action in seizing the dockyards and displaying a class consciousness not yet attained by their European fellowworkers. VICTORIAN POLITICS. Melbourne, July 20. In the Assembly, owing to the Labor Party moving! an amendment practically on the same lines as the Country Party, the Government regarded it as a fresh censure motion and secured an adjournment to consider the matter.
