In spite of the inclemency of the weather, quite a large number- of visitors from the surrounding, districts were present. Miss Julia Jacobsen officiated at the piano in her usual capable manner, while extras were played by Misses A. Jacobson and M. Savage, and Messrs. Hodder, Harwood, Moir and Norris. Amongst those wearing fancy costumes were: Miss Walker (France), Miss Jean Johnston (Maori maiden). Miss Hayes (Bridge), Miss Eileen Hayes (milkmaid), Mrs. Short (France), Miss Janet Johnston (Italian girl)', Miss Freer (Dutch' girl). Miss V. Jofonson (Nurse), Miss Beckwith (Red Cross nurse), Miss Rewa Johnston, Inglewood (AmerlcaL Miss J. Jacobsen (Red Tape), Miss A. Jacobsen (Dominoes), Mr. L. Walker (Turkish gentleman), and Mr. R. Savage (Chinaman). Things must be looking up in tte district (or probably the fall in wool has something to do with it), for the local factory is being altered and renovated in preparation for the expected increase in the butter-fat, due to seme of the settlers taking up dairying. Good progress is being made .in the construction of the new ferro concrete bridge near the factory, and great hopes are entertained of it being completed in the near future. Great interest was taken locally in the Springboks y. Taranaki match, the majority of the residents journeying through to New Plymouth. The road to Stratford presented quite an animated appearance. x
