PACIFIC CONFERENCE.
THE PROBABLE DATE. POSITION OF DOMINIONS. EXCLUSION NOT DESIRED, By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received July 20, 8.15 p.m. London, July 19. It is stated unofficially to-day that the Washington Conference on Pacificproblems has been definitely fixed for the first week in November. It has been arranged that Mr. Lloyd George will attend. The Allied representatives are likely to sail from Southampton on October 22. The indications are that Australia is unlikely to be afforded an opportunity , to express its views, even if formally invited to the conference. Mr. Hughes is practically certain to hurry home, on account of the disturbed state of Federal politics, indicated by cables constantly appearing in the London Press. The Morning Post's Washington correspondent says it is assumed that as a matter of course the British Dominions will be represented in their own right at the forthcoming Far Eastern conference; inasmuch as Canada, Australia and New Zealand are Pacific Powand are vitally affected by any settlement. It has been explained, however, that as the United States will not recognise the Dominions as separate entities they cannot be invited, and whatever representation that nray be accorded must be as part of the British delegation. It is understood there is no objection to the Dominions participating; on the contrary, the feeling in certain quarters is that it would be a good thing to have Dominion represenratives to assist, becouse their views are. believed to be parallel to those of the United States. There is no question of the Conference voting by the majority.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable A?sn.
