The London Daily News says the Prince of (Wales will visit Japan after his tour of India (says a London cable). Lord Gorell succeeds Lord Londonderry as Under-Secretary of the Air Ministry.
A. Washington message states that Mr. J. W. Sanders has been appointed American Trade Commissioner in Melbourne.
Dr. G. Home, of New Plymouth, leaves this morning for Dunedin, where he will conduct the University examination in applied anatomy. Dr. Home expects to return to New Plymouth about the end of next week
The report of the Matron (Miss Campbell) received at the monthly meeting of the Taranaki Hospital Board yesterday stated that Nurses Dew and Bullard went off duty during the month on holiday leave, and Misses MacKenzie and Grant were on sick leave.
Applications for admission on the list of wailing probationers wore approved as follows by the Taranaki Hospital Board yesterday: -Misses Mary C. Carroll- (Hawera), Norah M. Simpson (Fitzroy), and Mavis R. Orsman (Shannon). The death has occurred at Clive of a Crimean veteran in the person of Mr. John William Graham, at the age of eighty-five years-. The late Mr. Graham was only 20 years of age when he went to Crimea with the 05th Regiment, and after the evacuation he returned to London. Later he camo to New Zealand With his regiment, arriving mi the Dominion in 1862. \
The death occurred recently of Mr. .James Ritchie, for many years a highly respected resident of Upper Tutaenui, Marton. Deceased was born in Renfrew, Scotland, in 1831. and in 1860 went to Tasmania in the sailing ship Indiana. He landed in New Zealand in 1862, and joined in a rush to the gold diggings in Central Otago.
The death took place early yesterday morning at Auckland of Mrs. Elliott, mother of the Rev. W. J. Elliott, of New Plymouth, at the age of 78. Mr. Elliott was summoned to Auckland last week ou account of the serious condition of his mother’s health, an& the sympathy of the Methodist community in New Plymouth will be extended to him and his family in the loss they have sustained.
The following members of the New Plymouth hospital staff were successful in’passing the rechnical College invalid cookery examination at the beginning of this month: Nurses Corkill, Smart, Ennis, Bullard, Dayton, Moore and O’Connor. It was also reported at yesterday’s meeting of the Taranaki Hospital Board that the following had passed the junior examination in anatomy and physiology, conducted by Drs. M ade and Blackley:—Nurses O. C. Field, A. Street, A. C. Bullard, M. C. Dew, and A. M. Ren. Passed in physiology, Nurse Connor; A resolution was passed congratulating the successful candidates. .
