FOR IRISH PEACE.

CONFERENCE CONTINUED. SELF-DETERMINATION. DE VALERA INSISTENT, By Telegraph.-Press Assn.—Copyright. Received July 19, 10.30 p.m. London, July 18. Official: De Valera had a two hours’ conversation to-day with Mr. Lloyd George. The discussion will be resumed on Thursday. Sir James Craig and his Cabinet afterwards saw Mr. Lloyd George. They are returning to Belfast to-night in accordance with arrangements previously made. Sir James Craig has made the following statement: “The air has been cleared by De Valera and his friends insisting on the question of self-deter-mination for Ireland. Sinn Fein candidates who stood at the . Ulster elections were severely defeated on the questions or partition and self-determin-ation, and it now remains for De Valera and his friends to make whatever settlement they can with the British Government. With this settlement, Ulster does not desire to interfere, unlike De Valera in the case of the Ulster settlement. This being so, I and my colleagues are returning to Ireland to attend to local affairs. I hope Do Valera and Mr. Lloyd George will be able to reach u.n agreement. Ulster will be glad to co-operate on equal tarms in any necessary conference.’’—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
