OBITUARY.

MRS. A. R. ATKINSON. By Talecra ph.—Press AssodutloD Wellington, Last Night. The d?ath occurred to-day of Mrs. Lily May Atkinson, wife of Mr. A. R. Atkinson, solicitor, of Wellington. The late Mrs. Atkinson was best known as an enthusiastic worker for women’s rights and temperance. she was born in Auckland in 1866 and was educated in Wellington, being married to Mr. A. K. Atkinson in 1900. Mrs. Atkinson had been a member of the W.C.T.U. from 1886 to date, was recording secretary from 1887 to 1891, and again this year, was New Zealand president from 1902 to 1905, and was vice-president of the New Zealand Alliance from 1896. When her husband was elected president of the alliance at the last annual meeting, he stated the honor was a tribute also to the excellent work done by Mrs. Atkinson. Mrs. Atkinson was a member of the alliance executive from 1893 to date, was a member of the national campaign committee in 1919, a member of the Wellington Prohibition League from its foundation, was for many years president of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children (being re-elected in 1920), was president of the Pioneer Club from 1914 to 1919. and. a member of the recently-appointed board of appeal in connection with the censorship of picture films.
