THE HIGH SCHOOLS.
MEETING OF THE BOARD. The .New Plymouth High Schools Board of Governors met last night. Present: Messrs. J. S. Fox (chairman). H. TrimbhyL. C. Sladden, A. E. Washer, S. G. Smith, M.P., A. Morton, F. W. Atkinson and E. P. Webster. Apologies for absence were received from Dr. Fookes and Mr. L. A. Nolan. Mr. F. J. Eggleton was granted extended leave of absence on account of sickness. Miss Mclntosh, principal ar. the Girls’ High School, reported an attendanee cf 148 in the upper school and 41 in the, lower school. The report continued: “Sewing classes have been established and commenced on July 2, for junior free-place pupils who are not able to take cookery lessons. A dancing class is being'conducted at the school every Friday evening. ihe alterations to the school are nearly completed and it is expected the new rooms will be occupied. next week. Application has been made for four additional boarders, but no accommodation, is available at present.” The report was adopted. The principal of the Boys’ High School (Mr. W. 11. Moyes) reported a donation of a valuable collection of geological specimens from the commit tee of tho Canregie Institute.—li was decided to procure a glass case for the collection at a cost not exceeding £lO. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the Bawera people who, hcade.l by Mr. and Mrs. Easton, entertained the High Schoo] boys at tea on the occasion of their recent visit to Haw era.
