TARANAKI JOCKEY CLUB. PAST YEAR’S OPBRATIONS. The annual report of the committee of the Taranaki Jockey Club to be presented to the general meeting of members next week records a very successful year. The net profit, after giving an increase of slakes of £2OOO and writing off £6Bl 5s for UeprecJa. tion, was S'TGL 12s 2d. The profit and loss account shown that members’ subscriptions totalled £397 I9s, nominations £1519 10s, totalisdlor £16,926 7s. gates £2911 10s, training fees, etc, £425 6s 5d- total (including other itams) £22,910 12s. In stakes thc sum of $9200 was paid out. while £7033 4s 6d is set'against Government totalisator tax. Other outgoings were improvements and maintenance £774, general cxjM.nses £716 10s 3d. depreciation £6Bl ss. The balance (as stated), was £761 12s 2d, this being transferred to capital account. The report says: “A commencement haz heen made with the work necessary to earn Gilt the club's proposals In connection with alterations to the course. It is with deep regret, we have to report the death during the year of Mr. W. L. Newman, a life member and steward of the club.” Rules as tn jockeys' fees and retainers were amended at last week’s sitting of the Racing Conference to provide that "to a jockey of a second or ttird horse. If the net amount payable to the owner exceeds £lOO, £5 per centum thereon shall be payable, provided the fee ia at least equal to the losing fee." This applies to flat races only.
