INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) July 15. Roy Coutts is to be heartily congratulated on his selection to play in the Taranaki team on Saturday against our South African visitors. It is asserted, on good authority, that he is the first Inglewood footballer to be chosen for such an honor for fhe last 19 or 20 years. But not only is he an Inglewood footballer, he is a native bom son of the Moa Block. His parents for very many years have been amongst the best known and most respected of the district settlers. Old hands and young hope that he will give a good account of himself in the field on Saturday, and txave every confidence .that he will let no opportunity of forwarding the fortunes of his team pass him. Inglewood “an bloc’’ wishes him luck.

Another series of games in the second and final round of the cribbage tournA ment that is being carried out by the Inglewood cribbage clubs was played on Thursday night, when the scores were: Druids 20 v. Foresters 14; Waitoriki 23 v. Bowlers 18; Fire Brigade 34 v. Egmont Village 21. This leaves the Fire Brigade team leading by one win more than Egmont Village. What should prove the final meeting is due to take place on Thursday next, 28th inst. On Thursday, by invitation of Mr. J. Sutherland, the Mayor and the president of the Beautifying and Improvement Society, Mr. W. W. Smith, of New Plymouth, visited Inglewood and Inspected those parts of the domain where it is hoped to start the improvements and beautifying scheme. He arrived by the morning’s train and, as the members of the society were unable to meet him till after noon, he made a tour of the ground on his own account, until your correspondent, at the request of Mr. Sutherland, joined him, and pointed out to him the boundaries of the grounds. They spent, so far as your own was concerned at any rate, a very pleasant time and one full to.the brim of information of the kind touching immediately on work of the nature desired. In the afternoon another visit was paid to the ground, when some eight or nine members of the society accompanied Mr. Smith, and amongst them were able to give him an idea of the objects they hoped to attain. Mr. Smith said he was greatly impressed with the capabilities of the ground for beautifying and improving and thought that, with reasonable care, great things could be done . at comparatively small cost. Mr. W. Dale, whose -home is now m the Auckland province, near Te Aroha, but who will be remembered by many old residents of the Moa, especially of Egmont Village vicinity, where he spent some of his early years, has been on a visit to Inglewood. Another old resident, who has many relations in this county, was here on Tuesday last on the occasion of his niece’s wedding, viz., Mr. John Sattler, one of the pioneer family of that name, more than forty years residence m this hinterland of Taranaki. «■ In the report of the meeting of the Borough Council it was incorrectly stat, ed that Cr. Frewin seconded a motion granting a further lease of tMe Town Hall to the Vitagraph Picture Co.
