JAPAN’S TREATY.
EXTENDED FOR A YEAR. THE LEAGUE NOTIFIED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright Received July 3, 7.55 pjn. Tokio, July 12. In order to avoid the possibility of the alliance lapsing on the thirteenth, which is the terminal date, Britain and Japan forwarded an identical note to the League of Nations, announcing their intention to renew the existing alliance for another year. The American Charge d’Affaires has handed the disarmament note to the Foreign Minister. A high naval authority says that the Japanese Navy is ready to enter into eny reasonable arrangement.—-Reuter Service. JAPAN MAY APPROVE. IF PRESENT PROGRAMME STANDS. Received July 13, 9.30 p.m. Tokio, July 12. The newspaper Idahi Shimbun says that Japan will probably agree to disarmament in principle, provided the existing naval programme is not interfered with, including eight battleships and eight battle cruisers.—Reuter Service.
