PLUNKET SOCIETY.
NEW PLYMOUTH BRANCH. The committee held its monthly meeting in the Plunket rooms on Monday last. Present: Mesdaxnes Walter Weston (in the chair), Hoem, Blackley, Denny-Brown, Wade, Ambury, Shaw, Newton King, Nicholson, Cock, Valentine, Jenkin and Standish. Apologies were received from Mesdames Loveridge and Millar. The committee expressed sympathy with the hon, sec. (Mrs. Stuart Russell) in her illness. Mrs. A. S. Standish kindly consented to carry on the secretarial duties. The acting secretary was instructed to write Mrs. Russell expressing appreciation of her past services and best wishes for a speedy re-
covery. t The nurse’s reports for month ending June were read as follows:—New Plymouth: Visits to homes 164, new cases 33, number of babies on list 146, new cases 10, visits received at rooms, adults 215, babies 187, advice to expectant mothers 5, mothers shown how to make milk 6. Waitara report: Two visits paid to homes, adults to rooms 20, babies 21' 12 babies over 9 months, 7 babies under (of the 7 6 were breast fed).
Mesdaines Ambury and Shaw reported that good progress was being made with regard to the baby clothes’ stall for the forthcoming Plunket baby day, and a hearty Vote of thanks to Messrs. Ambury and White and Sons for parcels of materials received was passed. The report of the house committee was read by Mrs. Blackley and passed.
Mrs. Weston extended a welcome to Nurse Castle, assistant nurse; who was present, and introduced to the members of the committee.
Nurse Petersen’s application for her six weeks’ annual leave was granted. A letter was received from the Waitara branch stating that the sum of £32 had been received in subscriptions and donations, and that this amount was being expended in furnishing their rooms. A hearty invitation was extended to the New Plymouth committee to visit Waitara and inspect their new rooms.
A letter from the Borough Council stating that the free pass issued to Plunket nurses ou the trams was not available on the electric bus. The British Red Cross Society were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their donation of £5 towards the funds. It was decided to hold over the question of the opening of a branch at Okato until after tlie October meeting. Friday, November 18, was the date fixed for the annual Plunket Baby Mart Day and street collection in New Plymouth, and the secretary was instructed to write the Borough Council for permission to hold same on that date.
