PEDIGREE JERSEYS.
SALE AT HAWERA. DEMAND NOT KEEN. , TOP PRICE 200 GUINEAS. There was a yarding of over 100 pedigree Jersey female stock at the sale at fiawera yesterday under the auspices of the South Taranaki Jersey Breeders’ Association. This was tte. first sale held by the association. A large attendance of buyers assembled from various parts of the province, and fanners from outside districts were also included among those present. Tte value, of the purchases at the sale was approximately 2800 guineas. The demand generally was not keen, Widia Qiany instances prices failed to reach the vendor's reserve. Top price (200 guineas) was - realised for the heifer Meadowvale la Source, whose dam, La Preference, was a daughter of the champion cow Sultan’s Daisy. The heifer was disposed of by R. P. Morrisey and Co. on behalf of Mr. E. O'Sullivan (Tarikl). When put up she was passed at 140 guineas, but she was sold after leaving the ring, the purchaser being Mr. M. G. Maxwell (Opunake). The cow Briar Lady (September, 1913), which was sold on account of Mr. H. Buxton, brought 125 guineas. Cicero's Princess, the propertj’ of the same vendor, 100 guineas; and Little Chanm was passed at 125. The aged cow Thistledown, was sold for 47 guineas, but Mr. Buxton refused a bid of l«0 guineas for her daughter, Caloola Thistle. A good number of Mr. H. Hodge's herd were passed In at varying figures. A bld of 100 guineas for Waipiko Mozelle was rejected, as was also an offer of 60 guineas for the heifer I'rctty Polly’s Goddess. Heifers sold by Mr. C. boodson made up to 57 guineas, and Mr. Rob:. Bremer disposed of a number from 35 io 67 guineas. Among animals disposed of for Mr. 11. Mullions, Sultan’s Fury brought 76 guineas. The sale, which was held in a marquee on the A. and P. Grounds, was conducted jointly by. the Farmers’ Co-op. Society .(Mr. C. G. Trotter), R. P. Morrisey and Co. (Mr. Morrisey), and the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. (Mr. G. Cooper). Prior to the opening of the sale, the president of the Jer-, sey Breeders' Association (Mr. R. J. Linn) commended the stock to be offered to the consideration of buyers, and he said the yarding was as good a lot of pedigrees as would be found in Taranaki.
