RIOT IN INDIA.
PUBLIC BUILDINGS BURNED, POLICEMEN KILLED. By Telegraph.—Press Au d.— Copyright. Received July 12, 8.15 p.m. Delhi, July 11. Terrible riots took place at a Ligar during the trial of the local secretary of the non-co-operation movement. The mob looted and burned puiblic buildings and police quarters. Attacks I were also made on the Treasury, which was gallantly defended by four policemen, armed with obsolete Martini Henry’s and firing buck-shot. They held out all day, but the police in th© township were beaten everywhere. Five were found killed, and it is not known how many others were killed or injured. The magistrate wired to Agra for military aid and all available arms. When reinforcements arrived the mob suddenly dispersed. A special correspondent wires that parts of the city resemble devastated France. British and native troops are picketing the restless mob. Forty arrests have been mode.-Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
