TRIALS IN GERMANY.
TWO GENERALS ACQUITTED. ■FRENCH WITNESSES WITHDRAW. By TtlerraDh.-—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received July 11, 5.5 p.m. Leipzig, July 11. Generals von Shack and von Kruska, charged with causing the deaths of French prisoners in 1915 at Niede.rZwehren, have been acquitted. The French witnesses have been withdrawn. An Alsatidn interpreter testified that precautions were not taken to prevent the spread of spotted typhus, introduced by verminous Russians. Von Shack proved he was not responsible and Kruska pleaded that it was then not known that vermin carried disease. He was ordered to mix the prisoners for the purposes of local labor and he was personally not responsible. Doctors treated the victims for bronchitis and several attendants on the doctors’ personnel died from the same disease.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
