AUSTRALIA v. WEST SCOTLAND. GOOD BATTING BY AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received July 10, 5.5 p.m. Loudon, July 9. The Australians met West Scotland to-day. Play started, at 1.30 p.m., and there was no break except for tea. Th© West Scotland team is: Colonel Hoaro. Barbour, Ferguson, Thain, Stevenson, Jlanucs, George Gunn, John Gunn, Carr. Speed, Day. McDonald, Macartney, Carter and FeDew are standing out of tte Australian team. Armstrong won the toss and sent Bardsley and Collins in to bar. The weather was fine but sultry, and the wicket was good and fast. Ferguson, a slow left-handed bowler, and Thain, a right-handed medium bowler, opened the bowling. Twenty-throe were scored in four overs. Collins was caught high at mld-on by Barbour, who is not related to the Ausuallan Barbour.—One wicket for 54. Bardsley, at 23, sent a hard return to Thain, wtich he missed. Speed, a right-hand medium io fast bowler, camo on vice Thain. Andrews was run out. Ho ran down the pitch after making a .stroke, but Bardsley did not move. —-Two for ti 9. Bardsley hit 50 in fifty anln--1 utes, and the century was reached in fiftyfour minutes. After tea Bardsley was caught by Day, off 1 Thain. when he had compiled a useful 74. The sedfe then was three wickets for 131. Mayne Joined Taylor, but seven runs later lost him, Taylor, when 23, putting one from Thain into the hands of George Gunn, who accepted.— Four for 138. Mayne continued to bat confidently, making strokes all round the wicket, and, with the assistance of Armstrong, raised the total from 138 to 251, when he was bowled by Speed. Ryder joined his captain, snd both batsmen proceeded to compile runs rapidly, the former being 62 and the latter 22, both not out.
