NORTH TARANAKI HUNT CLUB. At a meeting of th© committee of the North Taranaki Hunt, held on Monday evening, a provisional programme, which will require to be approved by the District Committee, was drawn up for the hunt’s annual steeplechase meeting. It was decided to apply for Saturday, September 3, as the date for the meeting ,and to allot £1390 in stakes for the eight races. This compares more than favorably with the £930 given In prize money last year. It was decided to alter the conditions of the Maiden Steeplechase somewhat, making the race open to horses that have never won a race of any description at time of starting, point-to-point races excepted, and to increase the minimum weight to lOst. 71b. The distance for the Hunt Cup Steeplechase was reduced to about two and a half miles, and to be for qualified hunters, season 1921, that have never won a race exceeding in value £250 to the Winner at time of starting. The full programme as proposed is:— Hunters’ Handicap Flat, 120 sovs; Urenui Hack Handicap, 140 sovs, six furlongs; Maiden Hunters, Steeplechase, 150 sovs; Stratford Handicap, open, 220 sovs.. six furlongs; Hunt Cup Steeplechase, 300 sovs, including a cup valued at 20 sovs. to the winner; Waihi Hack Handicap, 175 sovs., seven furlongs; Lepperton Hunters’ Hurdles, 150 sovs., and the Opunake Hack Scurry, 125 sovs., five furlongs. ,

When a committal was applied for against a bookmaker for .debt at Willesden (Eng.) last month, it was stated that the warrant was returned marked “no goods.’’ The magistrate, in signing the order, said he would defer it for a week, as probably the bookmaking business was not very flourishing at present, but might be expected to improve later. In a sketch of the career of Sir Edwin Mltchelson (president of the Auckland Racing Club) who was recently knighted, the Weekly Press says he was one of the original eight shareholders In the first stud company formed In Auckland. This was the Glen Orchard Auckland Stud Company, afterwards known as the New Zealand Stud and Pedigree Stock Company. He took an active part in racing, one of the first horses to carry his colors being Vampire in the early eighties. Later on he raced with Messrs. S. Jagger and L. D. Nathan, and amongst the horses owned by’ the syndicate were Whakawai, Tranter, Formo, Escutcheon, Fabulous and Corunna, all of which raced with success, either In Australia or New Zealand.

A. E. Downing, who has been attached to S. G. Lindsay’s stable for some years, is leaving the employ of this trainer to take service with C. Jackson at Hawera.
