FOOTBALL.

ASSOCIATION GAME. THE NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. A meeting of the executive of the New Plymouth Association Football Club was held in the Soldiers’ Club last night. The president. (Mr. G. Roper) presided. Mr. Jones, a representative from the Hawera Soccer Chib, was welcomed to the meeting. Any member of the club, and anyone interested in the game are invited to turn out on the A. and P. showground on Thursday next at 2 p.m. to form a working bee to mark out the ground and put in goal posts, etc. Mr. Jones (Hawera) stated that lie believed that there was a cup in Taranaki, and was at present held by Kaponga. The secretary was instructed to write to Mr. J. East, Stratford, for information. A match was arranged between New Plymouth and Hawera, to he played at the showground, New Plymouth, on Saturday, July 23. Kick off at 1.45 p.m. sharp. Tho president stated that there were trtee Homo b°ats due in New Plymouth (jLir’iig the next few weeks. Matches will be arranged with officers and men of these boats as they arrive in New Plymouth.

The secretary was instructed to write to the secretaries at Kaponga, Stratford, Eltham, Inglewood and Waitara, with a view of arousing enthusiasm and creating keen competition for “soccer” Taranaki. Mr. Jones stated that greet interest was already being ma.nltested in Hawera, and that the club there was looking forward to some good games lu Taranaki.

The chairman remarked that som. 1 twenty player? turned up for practice on the racecourse on Saturday last, when the “hoops” played the “whites,” the former winning by 3 goals to 2.

Mr. Jones (Hawera) stated that the soccer players al Hawera were glad that New Plymouth had taken the lead in re-establishing the game tn Taranaki, and promised that the New Plymouth Club would have the wholehearted support ’of the Hawera Club.
