GRAY RIDES A WINNER. t> SEVERELY cautioned by stewards. By Telegraph.—SPress Assn. —Copyright. London, June 30. Curslakie rode three winners at Newmarket to-day, Bullock and Gray one each. There was only one winner not ridden by an Australasian. Gray repeated yesterday’s success on Orpheus, winning the Princess Stakes. Gray was reported to the stewards for the riding of White Satin in the Exeter Stakes, and was cautioned.
The Dally Chronicle states that Orpheus, previously ridden by boys, was a great farstriding animal, and needed a strong man like Gray to keep him properly balanced. It is curious that while Gray was so successful, the stewards called for an explanation of his riding of White Satin, saying that it did not appear to them that Gray made sufficient use of the horse. After hearing the owner and trainer they cautioned Gray. Later Lord Londonderry complained about Gray's unnecessary use of the whip while riding Mount Stewart in the Sohan Stakes. The stewards severely cautioned Gray. RACING IN AUSTRALIA. THE NATIONAL HURDLES, Received July 3, 5.5 p.m. Melbourne, July 3.
