THYROID MYSTERY.
CASE OF ALFRED WILSON. London, May 13. Although his relatives state that the old-young Alfred Wilson, who was 72 years of age, spent £7OO to go to \ ienna for thyroid treatment, a postmortem examination did not reveal the slightest sign of an operation. His relatives insist that Wilson returned rejuvenated and full of life and bustle. He was always at meetings, and developed a love for the theatre and for smoking and lecturing. Recently he decided to marry again, and informed his friends that ithe treatment would last for 30 years, when he intended to renew it.
The case has caused a remarkable sensation, as thyroid tablets are now the favorite morning drug for suburbanites, who, aftei weeks of dosing, solemnly declare themselves much younger.
Before Wilson died he went to a spiritualistic seance, where the medium purported to convey a message to him from Ihs dead wife.
“Tell Alfred I’ve no objection to him marrying the Austrian nurse,” the spirit was supposed to say, “because 1 know that he’s going to live for another 40 years.”
Alfred Wilson, who visited Vienna to undergo Professor Stelmach’s thyroid treatment for the restoration of youth, claimed to have derived much benefit from the operation. He was found dead in bed, however, on the morning of the day on which he was to have delivered a lecture on how he had been made 20 years younger.
