AGRICULTURAL MATTERS.
THE TARANAKI SOCIETY. MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. The Taranaki Agricultural Society’s Committee met yesterday. Present, — UesoTa. W. B. Grant (chairman). H. C. Sampson, A. Turnbull. A. E. Washer, J. A Kurth, N. W. Hill, F. Dodunski, G. W. Brown and W. Hall. AGRICULTURAL CLUBS. Mr. Brown asked if anything had resulted from the conference in regard to the institution of boys’ and girls’ agricultural classes. Mr. Washer said the matter was only □i its initial stages, but he underst iol ihe clubs would soon be established. Fur;her information would probably be tvailable at the next meeting of the rommlttee. FOOTBALL GROUND. Messrs. L. H. Dawson and J. Vaile waited on the meeting in support of a ietter from the New Plymouth Association Football Club, asking for the use >f the society’s show ground for football matches. The letter also asked for an option over the ground in future years. Mr. Dawson said the Association Football Club was anxious to become well established, but was handicapped through not having a playing ground. The object of asking for the option in future years was to ensure the re-estab-lishment of the club in successive seasons.
Mr. Vale also spoke in support of the request, and stated it was the ultimate intention of the club to play the Wellington Association for the Brown Shield. In playing the teams from the Home boats the club was indirectly advertising the town and district, inasmuch as the boat team would gain a good impression of the place and advertise the fact at Home.
Mr. Brown thought the idea of advertising the town was a good one. He was of opinion that the ground should be let at a nominal fee this year, and if necessary it could be raised next year. The society would get 25 per cent, ©f the gate money.
The chairman thought thez society should encourage the Associatron game, and if they helped the game along it would probably bring some revenue to the society.
It was decided that the club be granted the use of the ground at £1 for the 1921 season, the terms for future years to be fixed by the society later. The option over the ground was granted. GENERAL. A circular letter was received from •the Taranaki Progress League, urging, in view of the prevalence of cattle tick, that all dogs and cattle entering the district be dipped to prevent the spread of the disease. Members pointed out that the department had taken this matter up, and was doing all possible. No action was taken. The N;Z. Pig Breeders’ Association wrote asking the society to support the (following resolution: “That it be a strong recommendation to all A. and P. Associations that no pigs be allowed to be shown in pedigree classes unless the animals are registered hi this association’s herd book or are eligible for registration." The resolution was supported. Donations were acknowledged as follows: £2 2s from the New Plymouth Military Ball committee; prizes of 10/6 each for the school children’s handwriting and girls’ cookery class from Mr. Richards; Hugh Middleton, prize money; J.
