REGARDED AS LOST. B> Telegraph —Press Association. Auckland, June 30. H.M.S. Chatham left Wellington on June 23 to search and proceeded westward as far as coal supplies permitted, keep--1 ing sharp look-outs for' ship’s boats or wreckage. Look-outs were kept aloft throughout the day and searchlights used continuously at night. No trace of anything to throw light upon the mystery was found. A very hard wind has been blowing causing a nasty sea. Official opinion is that the Canastota is lost. Ship’s boats could not have lived in the rough sea even if they had. got away from the steamer intact.
