PETONE GASWORKS.
RESOLUTIONS BY WORKERS, By Telegraph—Press Association Wellington, June 30. The Petone gasworks dispute was discussed at a meeting of representatives of the industrial organisations of the Dominion held in the Trades Hall yesterday afternoon. The following resolution was passed: That this meeting of representatives of the organised workers is of opinion that the Petone gasworkers should be financially supported by the organised workers of New Zealand and that the financial support be given be equivalent to the rate earned by the stokers prior to the lock-out. This meeting further agrees that the unions represented will do all that is possible to obtain the finance necessary to pay the men the weekly wage agreed to.
A further resolution was carried: This meeting of representatives of industrial organisations strongly condemns the action of the Petone Borough Councillors in refusing to recognise the Wellington-Gasworkers’ Union in the settlement of the present dispute. This meeting views the present lock-out of Petone gas stokers as a challenge to the right to collective bargaining, and as an attempt by the Majority of the Petone Borough Councillors to impose arbitrary conditions of labor on Jhe men. *
