Eagar, ondf of the newly-elected borough councillors, ftsM Monday evening, and the result was a gathkfi ering over which the Mayor (Mr. J. land) presided Mr. Sutherland referred tw the wonderfully effective work done by simHj lar societies Ln other centres. Mr. List proposed that an association formed under the name of the Inglewood! Beautifying and Improvement Society, wn3 should endeavor W do all that could bo donfc to make the town attractive to the eye, asS well as to improve it in any other way thatf niijrfat suggest itself. They had some cxceM lent reserves that needed only well planned Improvements to make them equal to placer to which people travelled long distances fofl sight seeing. 1 Mr. T. Drake seconded. Mrs. Sutherland assured her hearers such! work would have the willing support of tb® ladies of Inglewood. Other members of the meeting also voiced; their approval, and on the proposal being put to the meeting there were no dissentient votes. On the proposal of Messrs. List and BrowrL Mr. Sutl erland was elected president or thw* society. Mr. W. Smith was elected secretary and treasurer. It was decided that all pre+ sent should be members of the society's corn** m'ttee, with power to add to their numbers* and that an annual subscription of 5s (which would include the wife in cases of married men) for men, and 2s 6d for ladies be charge ed The first meeting was fixed for Thurso day, 30th iust, at 2 p.m. at the Post corner.
