WAITARA.

(From Our Gwn Correspondent.) June 27. It is expected that the new concrete Maori meeting house at the Manakorihi Pah, will be opened on July 18, in the presence of Dr. Pomare and other prominent personages. It is on the cards that Ratana (the faith-healer) will also be present, when a number of the local natives will interview him. The meeting house, which is just about complete. was built and designed by Mr. Frank Lucas, and it does him credit. The builder had to build as near as possible to the old time whare. Mr. Thos. Luxton, who farmed about Waitara for a number of years, paid a visit to the old spot during last week? Me is now farming in the Waikato, not far from Hamilton. St. John’s Church held their annual June tea and entertainment on Thursday last in St. John’s Hall. The hall was crowded when the concert started, and a splendid programme was given. Mr. W. T Jennings writes to the Mayor from Adelaide, stating that that town comes an easy first over any town in Australia. He also visited Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne. The railways he considers 30 years ahead of New Zealand’s system. Mr. Jennings went overland from Adelaide to Perth and joined Jns steamer at Fremantle.

Mr. C. Tanner, a member of the Clifton football team, had a small bone in his ankle broken and another one fractured whilst playing against Stratford last Saturday week. It is reported that he will not play again this season. A friendly game between the Clifton Ist juniors and High School was played here on Saturday last as a benefit match. The lecture given by Mr. Woods, M.R.C.V.S., on abortion in cows, at th© Clifton Hall last Saturday, was well attended by the farmers from near and far, and no doubt the advice given will be of benefit to those concerned.
