ANGLO-JAPANESE ALLIANCE
JAPANESE PRESS MUZZLED. ' AMERICA’S ATTITUDE. Ry Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Tokio, dune 25. The Japan Advertiser and several other newspapers have been suppressed for having discussed the Anglo-Japanese alliance negotiations, of which the Government had prohibited mention. Washington, June 25. It is understood that the United States is not pleased at the prospect of the renewal of the Anglo-Japanese, alliance. Whether or how such attitude was announced is a matter for conjecture. The delicacy and confidential
nature of the situation make the expression of opinion difficult. It is stated authoritatively that the Government does not wish to create the impression abroad that the United States is not concerned or not interested in the alliance. On the other hand should the United States oppose the alliance it is believed serious antagonism would be aroused in Japan against the United States. CHINESE MINISTER’S VIEWS. New York, June 27. The Chinese Minister, Chow Tzu Chi, addressed the New York State Bankers’ Association. He declared that the Anglo-Japanese alliance was a warlike measure—vitally affecting China, but regarding which China had not been consulted. The preservation of peace in the Far East was so supremely important that the United States ought to have something to say aobut the alliance. Unless they became parties to the agreement he could not see how peace in the bar East could endure.
