TRAIN DERAILED.
PARIS EXPRESS DISASTER. CARRIAGES OVER EMBANKMENT. TERRIBLE SUFFERINGS, By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received June 27, 5.5 p.m. Paris, June 26. Further details have been received of the acc’ lent to the Lille —Paris express, which was derailed at Beaucourt Hamel, on the Somme, 27 being killed and 62 injured. The heat caused the rails to expand, and an axle broke as the train was passing Beaucourt Hamel. The luggage van left the rails, dragging the last three carriages, and then the van rolled into the River Aera and the three carriages fell down an embankment and were smashed to splinters. Horrible scenes were witnessed. Arms were seen waving frantically amongst the wreckage, but it was impossible to render aid. Some women begged to be killed if their agony could not be relieved. The place was the scene of heavy fighting in 1916.—Au5.-N Z. Cable Assn.
