VANISHED SHIPS.
THE MYSTERY IN AMERICA. CONFLICTING THEORIES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received June 26, 11.5 p.m. Washington, June W. The weather Bureau has produced records which apparently quash other departments’ theories that pirates or Soviet agents are responsible for the disappearance of the vessels about which there is a mystery. These records show that during the period in which twenty ships vanished violent storms raged in that part of the Atlantic and it is also stated that wireless distress calls were picked up from certain of the missing vessels. However, there are till some aspects of the case which the Weather Department cannot explain. The Bolshevist and buccaneering theory to account fpr the missing ships has received a great impetus from the receipt of an official report of the seizure of the Cuxhaven (a steamer) by a Soviet crew and its confiscation in the name of the Soviet Government. The ship was returned and the ring-leader was sentenced, but the ship was retaken by another Soviet crew, who also were captured and sentenced.
