THE BIG FIGHT.
CARPENTIER AND DEMPSEY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received June 26, 11.5 p.m. New York, June 24. Carpentier gave his last public exhibition, knocking out three new sparring partners, who replaced Journee and Gans. This try-out was the best Carpentier has shown in public. Several observers consider he is too finely drawn. Deschamps announces that the last week’s training will be strictly secret. Dempsey is resting alternate days and is also working secretly. Dempsey is favorite. Many favor Carpentier from sentimental reasons, but few seem to really believe he is strong enough to withstand Dempsey’s powerful body blows. A surprising number of French and English sportsmen have arrived to witness the fight.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
