MINERS’ STRIKE.
HOPE OF SETTLEMENT, MINERS TO MEET OWNERS. NO SUPPORT FOR STRIKE, ? —■© By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received June 26, 5.5 p.m. London, June 24. The miners and the owners have agreed to meet on Monday. Owing to complete failure to secure support for a general strike or anything beyond vague expressions of sympathy from other trade unions, the miners today decided to again approach the owners and the Government with a view to arriving at a wages agreement which they could recommend members to accept. Before this decision was made, Sir Robert Horne, in the House of Commons, hinted that negotiations were recommencing. and he added that there was now a real chance of a settlement. — Aus.-N.Z. Gable Assn. THE TEN MILLION OFFER. MINERS HOPE TO GET IT. Received June 26, 11.5 p.m. London, June 25. The miners anticipate that the Government will compensate them for the abandonment of a national pool by a condition reinstating the £ 10,000,600 offer.
