Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., was a passenger for Wellington by Saturdays express. A Paris message says that an American clergyman has agreed to perform a religious ceremony at the marriage of the Duke of Westminster to Miss Dea--701), an American. The death occurred at Carterton on Tuesday of Mr. Alexander Hughan, one of the earliest settlers of the Wairarapa district. Deceased, who was eighty-live years of age, was born at Kirkcudbright, Scotland, and came out to Victoria with his parents when an infant. Later they came to New Zealand, and settled in Otago. The deceased was one of the pioneers of the sawmilling industry in the Wellington province, and for a period had a sawmill at Upper Hutt.
