THE MISSING STEAMER.
NO NEWS OF THE CANASTOTA. VESSELS SEARCHING. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received June 24, 10.5 p.m. Sydney, June 24. There is still no news of the Canastota, all efforts to locate the missing vessel proving fruitless. The consensus of opinion in shipping circles is that the vessel has met with a mishap disabling ths machinery, making it impossible to use her wireless, and is proceeding slowly to port. WARSHIPS SEARCHING. STEAMER CARRIES MAILS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, June 24. H.M.S. Chatham left Wellington this morning for Auckland. Proceeding up the west coast of the North Island she will deviate from her course as far as her coal supplies will allow’, in order to search for the Canastota. It is understood that H.M.S. Veronica, which is at sea northward of New Zealand, will aid in the quest for the missing vessel. The following mails were dispatched from Sydney by the Canastota, which left that port on June 13:—For Auckland, 14 bags and three parcel recejW taeles; for Wellington, 19 bags and five parcel receptacles; for other places, 13 bags and 18 parcel receptacles.
