LABOR AND FINANCE.
LEVY ON WEALTH PROPOSED, a By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. “I am unable to advise the Government to recommend Parliament to adopt the financial methods outlined,” is the reply sent by the Acting Finance Minister (Sir Francis Bell) to the Auckland Labor Representation Committee and other Labor organisations which have sent him lengthy resolutions demanding the imposition of a levy on accumulated wealth arising from abnormal war conditions. The resolution# declared that over £200,000,000 is now required to pay off the war debt, stabilise prices, carry on authorised public works and make advances to local bodies so that work may be found for the unemployed, union rates of wages to be paid for all work, whether of a relief character or otherwise.
