A ROYAL SHOW.
MINISTER IN SYMPATHY WITH PROPOSAL. Palmerston N., June 22. A question of considerable importance to stock breeders, that of holding a royal, agricultural show in the Dornin’on, was brought under the notice of the Minister of Agriculture (Hon. W. Nosworthy) this afternoon by a deputation from the Manawatu A. and P. Association. Mr. M. said that the matter was of vital concern to breeders. The association was not actuated simply by a desire to see a royal show held at Paiinorston. Nowadays South American and South African pastoralists, instead of going to England, were wending their way to New Zealand to buy pedigree stock. When these people visited Great Britain in search of the best blood they invariably went to the Royal Show, which, in their eyes, set a hall mark on quality. The time had come when the Government should assist the association to establish a Royal Show) Mr. J. M, Johnston said that at present no association could undertake t<> give sufficient prize money to warrant the holding of a Royal Show In replying, the .Minister sa’d that outside of Great Britain there was no country that could reproduce the breeds of horses, cattle, and sheep so well as the Dominion. When the financial at mosphere cleared he would be prepared to ask Cabinet to set aside some money with a view to holding a Royal Show annually in different centres of the Dominion. turn about. He was thoroughly in sympathy with the proposal, and in this connection he recognised the good work of the Manawatu A. and P. Association.
