CLEAN DAIRY SHEDS. AN APPEAL TO FARMERS. A warning to farn.-'ra generally thaV there would be a system introduced before long for the rigid inspection of milking sheds throughout the country, was made by Mr. A. 11. H&kombe at the annual meeting of shareholders of tha North Taranaki Dairy Company held this week. Speaking as a member of the Taranaki Hospital Board, Mr. Halcombo expressed the hope that all farmers would see to it that their sheds and yards were kept in a clean and thoroughly sanitary condition. By so doing they would be helping themselves and their factory. The number of children treated in the hospital last year for infectious diseases, he said, was extraordinarily large, and, strange to say, most of the cases had been traced to the country, and a great percentage to daary farm«s. There was no doubt that a great, deal of the disease came from dirty s-heds and yards, and therefore he hoped that if there were any shareholders whose places were not up to the mark they would take advantage of the slack season and see to it that they were put in proper order. As he had said, they would be improving their factory, because no manager could manufacture a. iirst-class article if the milk and cream he received came from dirty sheds and surroundings; they would be benefiting themselves because he felt certain that it would mean a reduction in the number of patients admitted to the hospital and consequently a reduction in the cost of upkeep of the institution, and further it would probably mean the saving of the lives of several .-hildren.
