REMITS CARRIED. By Telegraph—Pres* Association. Wellington, June 22. The public service conference passed the following remits: That a six day jweek of 47 hours be granted to prison and reformatory staffs throughout tae Dominion, with alternate Saturdays and Sundays the whole day free from duty; that the eight hours’ duty plan be extended to all police stations where there are four men and over; that police officers charged with offences have the right of inquiry similar to that provided for officers in the general public services, also that an officer charged to have the right to be represented by council; that police officers have the right of appeal to an independent board With a stipendiary magistrate as chairman against any decision of the Commissioner or Minister of Police affecting the status or salary of police officers.
