TURF TOPICS. (By “Moturoa.") The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club and Hunt Club will hold a combined three days’ meeting at Hastings this week, racing to-day, to-, morrow, and on Saturday. As anticipated the' fields in the jumping events on the opening day are very poor, but the flat races have filled well. Form was pretty well exposed at Greenmeadows last week, and on paper it looks as If some of the same horses will win again. Mattock is only set to meet Luke on 61b worse terms in the Hawke’s Bay Steeples than when they met at Greenmeadows, and as Luke is showing signs of lameness it looks as if Mr. Gaisford’s useful gelding will again finish in front. Foeman is (meeting Mattock on 121 b better terfns, and may be his most dangerous opponent. The Hawke's Bay Hurdles will see some fair performers under silk, and Multive and Lord Nagar are sure to be strongly supported. Punters will be busy when it comes to sorting out the possibiles In the Heretaunga Handicap, and Gold Kip. Heathersprig. Molyneaux and Crucello all have recent ‘form to recommend them. In the minor events Whetolri, Gay Boy, Te Toa, Fiddlestring and Mort Avis appear to be favorably treated. T.J.C. DISTRICT COMMITTEE. Tlie Taranaki Jockey Club District Committee met last night. Present: Messrs. L. A. Nolan (chairman), J. McLeod, G. Fraser, J. Gray, D. J. Malone, B. H. Chaney, and O. W. Sole. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. H. Washer, A. Good, and 8. Pitt. The following dates were fixed for the Egmont and Taranaki meetings:—Taranaki, February 16 aad IS; Egmont, February 8 and 9. The secretary reported that an apprentice jockey’s license had been granted George Johns. The Uruti. Picnic Club forwarded the race card in connection with their recent meeting. —Received. Permission to train Vis own horse was granted Mr. W. Kempton, New Plymouth.
