NORTH ISLAND TEAM. EAST COAST COMPLAINTS. By Telegraph.—Press Association, Carterton, June 20. General Indignation is expressed in Rugby circles at the absence of East Coast players from the North Island team. The opinion is expressed that the selectors do not. give consideration to this coast. Neither the Walrarapa, Hawke’s Bay, Poverty Bay, nor the Bush Unions have representatives. ’VARSITY TEAM’S RETURN. Auckland, Last Night. The New Zealand University Rugby team returned from Australia by the Maheno today. The team had an enjoyable and successful tour. GAMES AT AUCKLAND. Auckland, June 19. The following are the results of week-end games:—University 8 points beat North Shore 6; College Rifles 10 beat Grammar School 3; Ponsonby 28 beat Marists 0; Grafton 51 beat Parnell 5. DUNEDIN RESUu.Dunedin, June 18. The senior Rugby football games on Saturday resulted as follows: —Kaikorai 14 v. Alhambra 0; Zingari. 20 v. Dunedin 0; Port Chalmers 9 v. ’Varsity A 8; Pirates 10 v. Union 0. A COASTAL SUGGESTION. Writes onr Pungarehu correspondent:— Rugby has received a considerable impetus along the coast this season, and the matches are followed with considerable interest, by a large section of the sporting community each Saturday. • So as to give some enthusiasm to the coastal players, the Taranaki Rugby Union should institute as an annual fixture a Coast versus New Plymouth match. There are three strong dubs here: Opunake, Rakotu and Okato, from which a strong fifteen could be selected. The country players express the opinion that the Union considers the towns only. It is within feasable possibility that a coastal representative team could be selected to shake up the Taranaki rep. team, and if an opportunity is given it will be availed of. However, a coastal versus New Plymouth match would create a good deal of interest In football circles.
