NEW ROAD CONSTRUCTION. AN important route. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, June 20. In pursuance of its policy of ooh- . centmting unemployed labor on “ n P O ?- / ant road construction work with tn dual purpose of relieving the uhemployment situation and pushing aheM essential roads, the Public Works Department is opening up the WhakaAu waka Road, connecting the WhangaKW mona Valley with the Mangatit. and Paranui landings on the River, an eventually with Raetihi, on the Mam Trunk line. . 4 total of twenty-five men, drawn from New Plymouth, Stratford, ana Hawera, have already been sent out to this work, and more will probably follow as the advancement of the road requires, although it is expected the Te Roti railway works will absorb a greater number of unemployed in the near future. ~ . .. The Whakaihuwaka Road will be the shortest route from Taranaki to the Main Trunk district, and will be an important link between the two provinces. It will probably be some years before the road is completed, but meanwhile its construction is serving a useful purpose in relieving the threatened distress of unemployment.} BUSINESS NOTICE.
