PACIFIC DEFENCE.
PROBLEM FOR THE PREMIERS POSTPONING DISCUSSIONS. MEETING OF NATIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. Received June 19, 5.5 p.m. Ottawa, June 17. It is reported from London that Mr. Lloyd George will support Mr. A. Meighan (Premier of Canada) in urging the postponement of the discussion on Imperial naval defence. The opposition of Mr. W. M. Hughes (Australia) and Mr. W. F. Massey (New Zealand) to this course will probably be met by a proposal to hold a conference between Britain, Japan, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, at which all the problems of the Pacific will be reviewed. It is felt that success is assured if Canada will take the lead at such a conference, which would do more to settle Pacific problems than gn alliance of navies. Mr. Lloyd George is said to bo lukewarm regarding the renewal of the Anglo-Japanese alliance.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
