IMMIGRANTS IN AUSTRALIA.
REASON FOR UNEMPLOYMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received June 17, 10.30 p.m. Melbourne, June 17. In the House of Representatives Mr. Charlton moved the adjournment to discuss the unsatisfactory arrangements made by the Commonwealth Government regarding immigration. Sir Joseph Cook, replying, said the only State in which trouble was experienced in placing immigrants was New South Wales, and that was due to the State Government’s refusal to co-operate with the Federal authorities. The Orient Company states that most of the Ormonde’s steerage passengers were small tradesmen, not unemployed. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
