SLUMP IN ENGLISH WOOL. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.’— Copyright. London, June 16. The sales of home-grown wools have commenced at Diss, Norfolk. There is a tremendous drop in values. The best price asked for Suffolk new is 13%d, compared with the highest last year of 50d. Prices of fine wool generally are l%d to 3d below 1914. Strong deep wools are 6d below 1914 prices. LONDON MARKETS. London, June 15, Waihi—26s 8d and 28s 9d. At the Bawra wooisalo a good selection of merinos was offered, mostly W’est Australians and Queenslands. Competition was Quite equal to last week's, and all prices were well maintained. Large offerings of crossbreds were sold to the Home trade and continued at late rates. Tallow—lBo4 casks offered, 629 sold, prices unchanged. Melbourne, June 17. Hides.—Market firm, all good conditioned hides and kips a farthing advance, other grades unaltered. Barley.—-English 4s 3d to 4s sd; Cape 3s to 3s sd. Oats.—2s 4d to 2s 6d. Potatoes.—£4 to £5. Onions.—£2 to £2 15s. PRICES AT WESTFIELD. BFEF SLIGHTLY FIRMER. The price of beef at the Westfield fat stock sales on Wednesday was equal in most grades to iast week’s rates. In some cases prices were slightly flnmer, particularly for primo quality beef. Extra choice ox beef brought, up to £2 per 1001 b., prime and choice £1 12s to £1 19s. plain and ordinary £1 5s to £1 12s. Cow and heifer beef realised from 18s to £1 14s. There was a good demand for sheep, and values all round were slightly better than the prices realised at the sales on the previous Wednesday, when values increased by about Is 6d a bead compared with preceding sales. Wethers realised irom 14s 3d to £1 4s, ewes 10s 8d to 20s, lambs 10s 6d to £1 ss. There was spirited competition for pigs, and all classes sold at improved prices compared with last week's rates. Bacon pigs and choppers fetched from £5 to £ 6 15s. PRICES AT BURNSIDE. A STEADY MARKET. Dunedin, June 15. Fat stock was well represented at Burnside to-day. The sheep and lambs offered numbered over 6200, and these met with good demand. Fat cattle were well represented, both in numbers and quality, and pigs also sold well. Fat Cattle.—A large yarding, numbering 223 head, and a good proportion of the yarding was of quality and well suited for butchers’ purposes, some extra heavy-weight cattle being offered. As the number yarded was !.n excess of butchers’ requirements, prices stowed a decrease of 20s per head for plain stuff, but well-finished bullocks sold particularly well. Prime ox beef sold at up to 41s per 1001 b, and the average price would be In the vicinity of 38s 6d, with heifer beef 30s 6d to 32a 6d, and cow beef 20s. Extra prime heavy-weight bullocks brought up to £24 10s, prime £l7 to £l9 10s, medium’ £l2 to £l4 10s, light-welgnt* from £8 upwards. Best cows and heifers £ll 10s to £l3 10s, medium £9 to £ll, light and unfinished from £6 upwards. Store Cattle.—A poor supply was offered, and the same term applies to the quality and the demand. There were buyers In the (market for well-bred steers in forward condibut none' 1 were offered. The prices realised for those sold were practically on a par with the rates lately ruling. Sheep.—A large yarding numbering 2084 head, the majority being of medimm quality. The sale opened firm, and a good demana exists for all classes. Prime sheep were sold at prices on a par with late rates, while medium and unfinished wethers were Is I
per head dearer. For the latter class a number of graziers were in the market securing supplies, and thia accounted for the increase in values. Prime wether mutton was worth from 3%d to 4d; ewe mutton 3d to 3Hd. Extra prime fceavy-weight wetbors realised up to 32a 9d, prime 22s 9d to 27h 6d. medium 18s to 225, light and unfinished kinds from 14s 6d upwards. Extra prime neavyweight ewes realised up to 26s 9d, prime 18s 6d to 23s 3d, medium 15s to 17s Gd» light and aged from 10s 6d upwards. Lambs.—An unusually large number was offered, totalling 3251 head. There was good competition for all lines suitable for export, and prices were equal to late rates, ranging from 15s to 26s per head. These prices were equal to 6%d per lb. Pigs.—A unedLum yarding. The sale opened with prices equal to late rates, but as the sale progressed values became a little firmer, and all classes met with a good demand. Best bpconers and porkers were sold at prices equal to from B%d to 9d per lb. ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. FREE SALE FOR BEEfF AND MUTTON. Christchurch, June 15. At Addington to-day there were full yaxdings in practically all sections of stock, particularly beef and mutton for both of whlct there was a very free sale. Store Sheep.— A. big yarding of poor quality, but a good sale, values improving about Is per head. Good forward 4 and 6-tooth wethers realised 16s to 17s lOd, ordinary 12s 7d to 16s, 2 and 4-tooth wethers 10s 9d to 12s 9d, forward 2-tooth wethers 16*, culls 7s to 8s 6d, forward lambs 10s to 10s lid, ordinary ewe lambs 9a lid, cuß lambs 5s 7d to 6a 3d, fairly good 2-tooth ewes in lamb 16a to 17s sd, fairly good 4, 6 and 8-tooth ewes in lamb 13s 7d to 15s 7d, sound and failing-mouth ewes, In lamb 10 lOd to 15s, aged in lamb 4s 6d to 10s. Fat Lambs.—A very free sale at from 6%d to 7d per lb. Extra prime lambs realised 23s 6d to 25s 9d, prime 20s to 22s lOd, medium 17s to 19s 9d, light 13s lOd to 16s 6d. Fat Sheep—A big yarding. Values were a shade better than last week, and there was a spirited sale. Extra prime wetters realised 29s 6d to 425, prime 21s 9d to 275, medium 18s 9d to 21s 6d, inferior 16s to 18s 3d, extra prime ewes 24s 3d, prime 18s 9d to 225, medium 15s to 17s 9d, inferior 9s to 14a. Fat Cattle.—A very free sale, and practically every hoof was disposed of. Extra prime steers realised £2O 10s to £23 10s, prime £l5 10b to £l9 Ills, medium £l2 to £l5, extra prime heifers £l6 15s, prime £lO 5g to £l3 2s 6d, medium £8 10s to £9 17s 6d, extra prime cows £l7 ss, ordinary cows £5 15s to £7 17s 6d. Veaiers.—Prices were considerably higher. Runners realised to £7 2s 6d, good veaiers £4 to £4 15s, small 25s to 455. Store Cattle.—A small of indifferent quality and a poor salL/ Dairy Cattle.—Good third calvers £lB, medium cows £lO 15s, good heifefs £lO 12s 6d. Fat Pigs.—An over-supply of porkers and a weaker sate. Choppers £4 iOs, baconers £4 108 to £6 5s (average price per lb, »d to 7%d), porkers £2 5s to £3 15s (average price per lb, 9d to 9%d).
