SHIPMENT OF PRODUCE.
PRODUCERS’ SCHEME. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, June 16. Representatives of the freezing companies interviewed Sir Francis Bell with reference to proposals for the shipment of produce. Mr. De Latour said the companies desired that, instead of the elaboration of a detailed scheme, statutory authority should be given for setting up a board of representatives of the Government and the producers with power to contract for shipping or to charter if a reasonable contract was impossible. It was better to take the first step in this way as the detailed scheme involved difficulties which involved delay. Sir Francis Bell said that personally he was impressed with the arguments in favor of such a proponal, as it would enable the Government to get back to its proper functions of legislation and administration. He had nor yet submitted the proposals of the producers’ committee to the Cabinet, as he ha<l not the money necessary. Me would submit, thi® new proposal for legislation to the Cabinet.
