LOSS BY FIRE.

INSURANCE CLAIM SUCCEEDS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Mr. Justice Herdman and a special jury have been engaged for the past two days hearing a claim brought by Henry Burnett Jones against the New Zealand Insurance Company for £l5OO, the amount of insurance on the ketch Fanny, destroyed by fire in Whangaroa harbor, Chatham Island, in April last. Plaintiff claimed that while drying the combustion chamber an explosion occurred, resulting in the destruction of the launch. The defence alleged arson —which allegation was subsequently withdrawn—and that the plaintiff’s method of drying the combustion chamber was highly dangerous, and the ri«k would not have been accepted had the company known of its employment. The jury found for plaintiff', but judgment was not entered, pending argument on certain non-suit points.
