GALE AT NEW PLYMOUTH. j , SOME GOOD PRICES REALISED, ' TOTAL OF 4200 GUINEAS. 7 A sale of pedigree Jersey eattle was conducted by Messrs. Newton King, Ltd., at Walwakaiho yesterday, under the auspices of the New Plymouth branch of.tte New Zealand Jersey Breeders’ Association. The weather was fine and the large attendance of buyers constituted a representative gathering of Jersey breeders from all over the Dominion, many coming from as far south as Dunedin. The total lots disposed *of realised approximately 4200 guineas. In the heifer classes bidding was fairly brisk, many of the lines offered realising good figures, particularly those bred by Mr. John Hale, Avenue Road, New Plymouth. One of these—Silver Buttercup, a fine conditioned 2-year heifer, which comes from Grannie’s Knight, the latter being a product of the famous K.C.B. (Imported) stock—realised 2&lgns. The purchasers were Messrs. H. Sutton and Co., Longbush, Carterton. Other outstanding prices gained by Mr. Hale were ‘'Treasure's Patch” (by Grannie's Knight) 155 guineas (H. Sutton and Son), and “Holly Oak’s Rose” (Grannie's Knight) 151 guineas, bought by Dr. Pickerlll, of Dunedin. The average price for Mr. Hale's stock was 11254 guineas. Bidding was cows, although several lots were passed in. Prices,. however,, ranged from 13 guineas to 55 guineas. There was little or no demand for bulls, only six lots being disposed of. Mr. John Hale's ‘‘Rioters’ Merry Knight” (Grannie’s Knight stock) brought top price at 82 guineas. ( Details of the sale are:— BULLS. (On account of Mr. H. Lepper, Lepberton). Newton King, Ltd., conducted a sale at the farm, Bell Block, on Tuesday, of Mr. John Poletti's grade Jerseys, this well-known breeder having decided to devote his attention in future to pedigree stock only. Mr. Poletti has been dairying at Bell Block for many years, and had, by careful breeding and systematic culling, built up a very fine herd of grades. The cattle submitted on Tuesday ■were all sourjd In color, and were a very uniform lot; in fact, many of the visitors present, and there were buyers from all parts of Taranaki and from as far ns Masterton, said the catalogue embraced the finest and moat

uniform lot of grades they had ever seen submitted on behalf of the vendor. Fortythree cows were disposed of, the average price being about £2l. The top price was £37, and five or six others reached £3O or ove|r. Heifers, carrying first calves, realised from £5 17s 6d to £l5, the average being about £lO.
